Open Letter to My Son – The Thomas Balloon and Ketupat Rendang

Dear Miki,

Mummy doesn’t want to miss a thing. Mummy doesn’t wanna forget. Mummy’s heart is full of love but Mummy is human too. Someday Mummy will be old.. Mummy will forget. It is breaking Mummy’s heart having to go to work every day and missing the moments meant to be spent with you. So Mummy will try to write everything down. About your mischief, about your wit, about your tantrum but all about you stealing our hearts. Mummy’s heart and Daddy’s heart. Mummy will write your stories.

Yesterday we went to Alamanda, Putrajaya after you and Daddy fetched me from my workplace at Mi***. You can say the name of my employer company very well although sometimes you forget and start saying the name that you create yourself inside your brain, like Mikoopow or Mipulapupudes. Like wth is that? But you have never forgotten where Daddy works though, Daddy works at Nonee! It’s ok baby, you are doing great! You are not even two yet and you can already memorize the company that pays better bonus.

At the food court in the mall, you saw balloons selling in abundance at the news stand. You wanted bayoon Thomas (Thomas the train balloon) which you already have one at home. I tried reasoning with you, telling you that you don’t need another that you already have. I swear to God you understand every word I said but you just refused to acknowledge it and pretend to be like a lil toddler who doesn’t understand what his momma say. In the end I gave up being reasonable and told you that

Duit takde macam mana nak beli? Miki ada duit?” (How are we going to buy that when we don’t have any money? Do you have any money?)

With that note you ran with all your might, all the way straight to Daddy who were seated at the table near the juice bar. You held one tiny cupped hand up to him and said, “Daddy, nak duit! Duit mana Daddy? Duit mana?” (Daddy, I want some money! Where’s the money, Daddy? Where’s money?)

Your startled old man then asked “Nak buat apa?” (What is it for?)

Nak bayoon Thomas!” then leaped to your Daddy’s side and started to pat his butt! You knew where he kept his wallet? You are dangerous, kid!

Even when your Daddy said no, you still ran back to the news stand and this time I gave in and told you that you can pick something else but not balloon. You picked a box of Matees (Smarties) and you were quite for awhile.

While you are enjoying your candy I went to get a plate of Lemang and Rendang Tok. Delicious! Hari Raya food has always been my favourite food!

The moment I put the plate down on the table you laughed out loud and exclaimed happily “Hahaha!! Ketupat rendang! Ketupat rendang!”

My jaw dropped and I exchanged glances with your Dad. How did you know that kid? After hari raya you have been fond of Anuar & Elina’s Hari Raya Song and kept asking me to sing it despite Syawal has long left us. I always thought that “ketupat rendang” is just a song to you like “Burung Kakak Tua” or “Itsy Bitsy Spider”. I didn’t know you knew it was food!

When did you learn that? You are so hilarious! We laughed so hard that day and my heart flowered.

I have so much that I want to write about you, son. Later when I have the time.. and before my mind forgets.. I will write more stories of you that make our heart flowered with happiness and joy.

I love you.
Mummy

Jalan-jalan Cari Pasal School Holidays

My family from Penang came over to KL last weekend to take advantage of the long Christmas holiday for jalan-jalan cari pasal. Dan kalau dah cari tu mestila jumpa kan? We sure had a lot pasal but it was fun!

Early 26th morning we left KL for Malacca. According to plan we should be stopping at Air Keroh’s Zoo Melaka. As this is a school holiday trip, we are here to make the kids happy. If we were to make the adults happy, all places of interest should be air-conditioned, serve coffee, accept Mastercard and sell shoes.

But the zoo was full. Strictly no parking. From inside the car we could people queuing to buy tickets and the line is like what?? 50 meters? We decided not to stop and continue the journey to Banda Hilir. Itu pasal yang pertama!

Pasal yang kedua – my cheeky lil nephew has opened the back seat window and rested his chin and arm on it. Accidently, he pushed the window down too hard and the power window snapped. Maka tak boleh tutup la tingkap itu.

Pasal yang ketiga – tingkap tak boleh tutup thus air-con is just a bit cooler than dragon’s breath! Hot! Cair taik telinga aku!

Pasal yang keempat – no parking! I don’t think I wanna tell you about my quarrel with the Nepali security guard that didn’t allow to triple park our car. It could lead to brain hemorrhage, just recalling about it.

Oh well, other than that, everything was fun. After all we were there to take the kids visiting the historical city. I am very proud of my nephew, Adam and niece, Nurin. They have gone so big now, so smart and knowing their history lessons very well.

That’s three of us in the Menara Taming Sari. The tower is the first revolving “Gyro Tower” in Malaysia with main purpose of enabling visitors to view the city from a bird’s eye view. You can see Banda Hilir, Dataran Pahlawan, Melaka Straits, TUDM museum, Stadthuys, Saint Pauls Peak, Independence Memorial, State Mosque and Melaka Island etc. Adam and his brother Arash loved this experience. 7 year old Arash even exclaimed excitedly to him Mum, “Ibu! Tu Penang! Boleh nampak Penang dari sini!”

Cheeky Miki

Since there was a lot of walking need to be done, Sarah joined Miki strolling in the MX3. Tak sia-sia aku beli stroller sebesar mesin pembajak. Sarah is 3 years 1 month old. But Miki is just as tall as her already.

I dont know why Azman took this photo. But I think it is pretty. Melaka is a very nice place to be. Asam Pedas is a great food to eat. These are iron fencing around A Famosa.

To all readers, Azman, Miki and I wish you a very Happy New Year 2010. We have so much stuff lined for next year.Insya Allah hopefully everything will go on smoothly.  :)

Siri Bercakap Dengan Miki – Over Spicy Tomato Beef & Sayur Campur

I was teruja looking at CPM’s campak-campak cooking today that I immediately start to campak-campak a couple of dishes for dinner myself. As Miki was asleep when I arrived to fetch him from the babysitter’s, I decided not to wake him up but go home and cook instead.I had approximately half an hour. Thawing alone took 5. Cooking could never be done if Miki is around, at least not without risking the explosion of my TV in the living room resulted by Miki’s innovative application of his badminton racket. His PLASTIC badminton racket.

Anyway, I made:-

spicy tomato beef

Spicy Tomato Beef

And this stir fried cauliflower, green beans, broccoli and carrots. Kindly disregard the uneven sizes and cuts of my vege. I sliced while flirting with my second husband, Abang Twitter. Like always, my vege are tad overcooked for most people, even myself but I need to compromise with Miki’s digestive system and tiny milk teeth.

sayur campur

While I was serving dinner, Miki played with his Daddy that has just gotten home from work. He asked him to sit on his IKEA toy trolley and said,

“Jom! Jom! Pergi Giant!”

Tahulah Giant depan rumah tapi perlukah ko tolak bapak ko dalam trolley untuk pergi ke sana? Tapak kaki dia pun ala-ala tak muat masuk dalam mainan ko tu!

While we were eating, Opah from Kedah called wanting to talk to Miki. When asked what he was doing, Miki answered

“ Miki makan makan makan lollipop nasik! Miki buang nasik, Daddy marah!”

The rice flavored lollipop is Miki’s wishful thinking. The part that he threw away food and got scolded was accurate reporting.

After dinner I heard squeaking sound from the back. Apparently a tiny little critter had gotten into the trap so I called the guys to check it out. Miki was totally amazed. He took a look at it and burst out laughing with amusement. As the critter was squeaking louder and louder, Miki said “Ha ha ha! Ada mouse! Dia nyanyi!”

Hey that’s not singing! Ok, I swore I would not sing in front of my boy anymore.

Right now Miki is playing tearing-down-the-house with his tiny mouth continue to speak non-stop. I think he just called me Mummy Pokkades. I do smack his bum right now.
