A friend who lives near our house asked if I know the nearest grocery store in our neighborhood. I told her that I normally shop at Tesco or Giant but if she wants to have her cooking gas cylinder changed she should call the Indian store at Taman Bukit Kuchai. They do delivery. Being that resourceful biyatch that I am; I even gave her the shop’s phone number.
And guess what her feedback was! “You mean you’ve changed your gas cylinder ALREADY?” She stressed the word “already” with genuine marvel shooting out of her eyes like they were spot lights of Gotham City; turned on to summon Batman.
Like wtf? Of course I have changed my gas cylinder!? I have been staying here for what??? Three.. four years?! It’s just a freaking tiny tong gas la.. Not like it is as big as Bani’s tummy or something that it could last for FOUR YEARS! Was she implying that I have not been cooking?! Eeiii aku insulted tauuuu!!
I have changed my gas cylinder! Not once but f.i.v.e; FIVE TIMESSSSSS!!! erk, setahun sekali, ok la tu.. ops!
Anyway on the day that my cooking gas ran out I have made lunch using the oven. We normally barbecue our lamb and chicken chops but from now on I am voting for oven roasted meat because damn! They are good! With much lesser mess, lesser time spent standing, no smoke in the house… I am an oven lady now people… call me Diyana BeethOVEN. Classic as hell.. oh yeah baby!

Barbeque Chili with Garlic Lamb Chops
Turn on the heat box on highest for 20 minutes then throw in your marinated meat, turn down the temperature to 180 degrees and roast them on top for 30 minutes. At the last 15 minutes I added my vegetables on low. Soak your greens for a few minutes before that to add moisture. I seasoned my Japanese zucchini, brinjal, tomatoes and pumpkin with salt and pepper, basil and olive oil. Paprika would taste great as well but I didn’t have any in my fridge. I added pumpkin on the other hand because I had them in my fridge! Surprisingly the pumpkin taste good! It gave a nice sweet contrast to the succulent cool zucchini, the sour tomatoes and the creamy brinjal.
After I took the above picture, I placed the plate on the table and went back to the kitchen to get my gravy. Then I heard Miki’s voice so loud and clear;
“Woooooooooow!!”
Tujuh harakat uols!! Followed by Azman laughing out loud.
Apparently that lil kid had taken a look at Momma’s cooking, throw his open palms out on the sides of his face and exclaimed utter disbelief. THAT’S JUST MUTTON, MIKI! NOT WHALE MEAT NOT DODO BIRD!!! WHY ARE YOU ACTING LIKE YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN FOOD BEFORE?! ARE YOU INSULTING ME, LITTLE BOY??
Sebagai balasan ko makan bubur je! Hmmp!

Vegetable rice porridge for Miki
I guess I need to break away from my asam pedas-masak lemak-sambal tumis- sayur campur routine more often. My kid thinks I am incapable! Dem!
