The Nasty Green Thing on My Kitchen Shelf

We had been eating out on so many nights for the pass few weeks. I had been coming home late from work and got home so exhausted; I couldn’t detour my mind from thinking about what to wear tomorrow jumping into bed with my work clothes on and just doze off to sleep!

Today while fixing ourselves a pitcher of cold drink, I saw a glimpse of something mysterious lurking among my groceries on the kitchen shelf. As I peered closer, I saw it was about four inches long, green in color and unmistakably ALIVE!!!!!

I leaped back. Poised in my Jackie Chan karate fighting stance; I clenched my fists hard; gritted my teeth and glare at The Green Thing. My heart was pounding hard! At any time it could pounce on me, that Nasty Green Thing!

I gulped hard. Something needed to be done immediately. I must eliminate this Nasty Green Thing before it ventures out of the kitchen into the other rooms in the house. God knows once it reached one of those rooms there was no way even a professional eliminator could locate it anymore.
It would make a comfortable habitat out of the junks and rubbish piled high in all of our rooms and it would breed! Then the house would be full of many Nasty Green Things, crawling all over! Oh what horror! Dammit I should have spring clean earlier. The last time we had one was in autumn 1974. Azman was not born yet.

Slowly I reached for the broom stick at the corner. I used my Yoga skills to stretch my slender body from two meters away and slowly… slowly…took my aim. I squint one eye to focus better.

While taking a deep breath, I channel all the energy in the universe into my right arm, it flowed through the broom and Haiiiiyah! I poke, poke, poke on The Nasty Green Thing.

Kelepuk! A chunk of ginger fell onto the floor. It has sprouted about four inches of green living shoot.

I have not cooked longer than I thought.

Aku insaf. This is what I made for dinner.

From Starbucks to Kinrara

Today is diyanazman.com’s four months birthday. So young it is; like an infant just beginning to grow baby teeth and like a Proton beginning to get stuck at its all four power windows.

Though we seem new, Azman and I have begun blogging a long time before. The first blog entry I wrote was in a Blogspot in September 2004. I can remember vividly how we were still dating back then. So often we go out to Starbucks, not only to devour the intoxicating lattes but to relish on the free wireless broadband; because Azman and I incase you have not noticed are extremely sexy boring geeks and there is nothing we love better than to spend long intimate time together while watching our computers grow obsolete before our very eyes.

I almost cannot believe how awesome I was when I started blogging. Entries in September 2004 were written at great length and with exceptional flair of writing. For someone as indolent as me to write so many entries in just one month is also amazing. I wrote exactly TWO blog entries.

In October 2004 the blogging was forgotten. Our favourite barista quitted working and the new guy did not understand why our coffee must be refilled five to ten times again and again for free. We moved from hanging out at the café to getting ourselves busy getting engaged and later in Jan 2006; married.

Then in September 2006, exactly two years after our first blogging effort, we discover that our next door neighbor was oblivious of the existence of personal wi-fi security and permit his wireless signal to creep into our crib without our consent. After deliberating for about 1.5 seconds, we came to a conclusion that there was no choice but to enjoy free internet all over again.

That’s when I came back to my writing. This time in my Friendster blog entitled ‘The retired drama queen – Don’t hate me cause I have high metabolism’ where I noted my earliest encounter with Si Chemong, bitched about unthoughtful people around me and jotted down my life threatening cooking attempts.

Couple of months later our neighbor moved away, engulfed in creepy deja vu we subscribed to Streamyx and register our own domain. In 15 January 2007, www.diyanazman.com went live!

It has also come to my knowledge that many unexpected people have been reading this website. They include my Project Director (Hi Encik Nasir!) and my former lecturer from University Malaya (Hi Doc!). I am trying very hard not to disappoint these people I highly respect by being a dreadful writer that discusses nothing but shopping and lepakking. I really do not want them to think that I am only capable of creating a website full of nonsense with absolutely no meaning.Let me tell you something, fellas. There IS a lot of meaning in this website! You just can’t see them because they are hidden in these links.

hate message
*marah betul mamat ni ye!hehehe

Today, the fourth month anniversary of our website witnesses the growing hits of 28000 and our first hate messages posted on the shoutbox. One of our visitors had apparently log in at 4 in the morning to express his opinion. I must say your efforts getting up at the wee hours to advice my husband that he looks like a satan is utterly priceless. Your determination made me go speechless!

Later in the afternoon, Azman posted his phone no in the shoutbox for just a second while chatting with his friends. Within minutes a hate sms was received in his mobile. Its almost unbelievable! We got really excited about this it’s like winning a lottery! We have never had anybody hate us before… More over, the sender went through all the trouble of reading every single bit of conversation in our fast moving tiny shoutbox to pick up the opportunity of getting our number. Buat susah-susah saja!

You deserve a proud pat on your shoulder for that kind of hard work, pal! We are so proud of you! Do visit this website again!
