Back in the 70’s & 80’s, every time the Malaysian soccer team played at the Stadium Merdeka, the place would be jammed packed. On those days Malaysia was one of the most respectable teams in Asia. Even South Korea & Japan took their matches against our country very seriously and it had been a routine for Malaysia to qualify to the Olympics.
But as our stadiums got bigger and bigger… the number of Malaysian soccer fans got smaller and smaller. Nowadays no Malaysian has actually got faith in our own team anymore. Being humiliated by Philippines & Laos had been a huge disaster for the country’s soccer scene. But FAM seems not to care. All they seem to be thinking about is building bigger stadiums..and all the blame will be placed on the coach.
Claude le Roy, has proven to be one of the best coaches ever by bringing the Cameroon’s youngest team to World Cup final. He too is not good enough for Malaysia.
By now…the Malaysian fans have got so bored with our own team and switched to supporting other countries. What can we do to bring them back???
These are my 5 ways to get the Malaysia fans back in supporting their own country….
1. Bring on World class player
A lot of world class players in the European league are from Brazil & Argentina.They have never played for their own country before so let us give them nationality! Should we care if they can sing Negaraku or not? After all we have been supporting other countries in the Worl Cup all along… And that includes those who once colonized us like England, Holland, Portugal etc What difference does it make if we just support the Malaysian team with foreign players???? I bet it will be a lot better.
2. Bring on World Best Team
Here is another trick. First don’t bother to participate in any competition at all. Just arrange friendly matches with world class clubs & countries such as Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Brazil, Italy etc. Even Malaysian players wont mind getting trashed because they are much more interested to get those world class players’ autographs anyway!! Everybody would look forward to see their favourite players; the stadium will deffinately be full!
3. Stop LIVE TV Telecast
Stop all TV live coverage each time Malaysia play. All live coverage should only be on the radio; with really good commentators such as Hasbullah Awang and Rahim Razali. These two guys can make even the most boring match sounds great. It will bring back old memories!! Do you really think that the Malaysian team in 70’s & late 80’s played great football?? Have you actually seen a full match? Dude,it was Hasbullah Awang’s commentary that make you believe the game was great!! Can you remember how exaggerating he was when he described the late Mokhtar Dahari’s shoot was as fast as bullet?? Hasbullah’s good!!
4. Implement American Idol or Akademi Fantasia concept
Use that concept they implement in the American Idol/ Akademi Fantasia. Bring on 30 best players in M-Super League for selection. Each player should be given a chance to show their skills LIVE on national TV for 10 minutes and pledge for vote!! Then, select top 18 to represent Malaysia in any competition. If they cant perform, after the competition we can vote them out…and he must drag his luggage out from the stadium. Pretty cool right??…all Malaysian will enjoy it for sure.
5. Football Carnival
Everybody knows that Malaysians love carnivals so much..!! So how about FAM hold a carnival outside the stadium everytime there is a competition inside. Make a deal with TV3 Jom Heboh, give free tickets & don’t forget a big screen TV showing LIVE telecast. To make it even better, bring on AF students, Mawi, Siti Nurhaliza etc
I believe the fans will be back once FAM follow my ways…hahahahahaha..

people would actually subscribe astro just for the sake of those live matches, i wonder if they’d the same if kg baru fc nak lwn pdrm fc (example la, tak tau wujud ke tak)??
however, the presence of personalities like shebby has indeed spiced up the local scene…
myteam at least has dragged some spot light to our local teams kan.. but it’s the quality that need to be improved, self esteem… (yawn yawn..)

if myteam are my local fc.. i would certainly give them my support.. i mean watching them home play
unfortunately we got only johor-fill-the-empty-spot-fc here…
i second on the 3rd idea.. they should get top2 radio station.. like era and hotfm.. and brodcast like super big game even tho theres only 20 ppl minus player on the stadium
p/s: put the mic on the crowd and fill the half time with stunt or celebrity performance

i agreed with that “put the mic on the crowd” idea!! but its a lot better if just record crowd noise from full stadium (ex. Nou Camp & Old Trafford) and play it!!..hahaha
I agree with what u want to do… I think doing it just not thinking about it will help the crowd to come in… other than that, I think the standard of the game should be increase in our country….
Well again, I am just like most of us, who hope for the best for our football scene to be better in the future…..

A good topic…and I agree with some of the suggestions. I am sorry to say that I won’t go to watch Malaysia play if they are at their best with imported players bcause…it’s not pure Malaysians and there is nothing to be proud of..(they have let me down so many times..sick of them!!)
I don’t think Malaysian team will improve without discipline and consistency. ..(Khalid..kura-kura pon lagi laju dr dia..masa second half). Bola Malaysia masuk masuk Olimpik? Jangankan di alam realiti…alam mimpi dan fantasi pon blum tentu lagi…hahahaha.
