Open Letter to My Son – But I Don’t Want to Raise a Nerd…

Dear Mikael,

Many months ago I bought you a Boohbah Dazzle book because I have never seen a book with flashing lights in my whole life. The book was particularly boring, despite the colorful pictures it doesn’t have a story inside it, just repetitive names of the characters of these Boohbah creatures. For your information, if I ever found one of them out there in the streets; I would immediately drop dead from a heart attack. It’s soooo spooky!!!

Recently in attempt to shut you up your Daddy has started to read the book to you. Apparently you seem to have a special liking towards books and you calm down when we read to you your favourite kiddy books. Now that is a good thing, son but neither do I want to raise a nerd, you understand?

Humbah, Zumbah. Zing Zing Zingbah, Jumbah, Jingbah BOOH!! That’s the Boohbah Dazzle magic chant from the book and after a few times chanting, you began to copy your Daddy reading. Which to me is the cutest thing in the world; as long as you don’t copy him farting and stuff like that.

You love flipping your Boohbah Dazzle book while chanting Boowahh Boowah Booowahh over and over again. Just as though you are reading the book! You never get to finish the whole book however, because I couldn’t stop myself from interrupting and start chewing your cheeks and biting those tiny book flipping hands.

The other day we caught you reading again; Boowahhh Boowahh Boowah as you are looking and flipping through my CLEO magazine! and a couple of hours later the same Boowah Boowah Boowah to your Daddy’s two inch thick PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLERS – AND THEIR ENGINEERING APPLICATIONS!! I just slapped my forehead…

Miki,

Its amusing looking at how naïve you are. You are yet understand that there are many books out there with different stories inside them. There are books with the words of God you need to recite ( and memorize ); book with methametical tables you would hate me making you memorize; books called Victoria Secret catalogs that I would strangle you if you want to memorize.. etc

Enjoy your childhood Miki, lay off your Daddy’s engineering book. Not until you are 13 months, okay!

Love,
Mummy

PS- Here is the video of Miki – not reading but understanding my simple instruction – Where are the books? Go and get the books!
Miki understands a lot of things now and answer to many questions by gestures. Look at Daddy when asked Mana Daddy? Look at fish in the aquarium when asked Mana fish? Crawl and get the ball when asked to do so etc.

But the best thing is Miki would give me a huge sloppy wet kiss on the mouth when Azman asks Where’s Mummy? That’s the best thing in the world to me!
