Not fit for the flea market

Happy Monday!

The boys and I went to Amcorp Mall yesterday to do one of my favorite weekend activities – Roam the Flea Market! Yes, I love flea markets especially the in Amcorp because they sell really awesome stuff like antiques, unique knick-knacks and collectibles.

I saw this original tin board from those old-school cinema that says “ALL MIDNIGHT SHOW SOLD OUT” followed this the same in Chinese characters. It looks like it was 20 years old. Isn’t that the coolest thing or what? But it was selling for RM100 and my gaji tak masuk lagi. Damn! I bought a pot of dill to add in my herb garden, I really hope it would grow. Also bought some decorative items for my bathroom. My poor upstairs bathroom is really bare and boring. I am thinking of uplifting the look of that room so that I can bathe happily and berak happily also. Hehe. Miki got a Ultraman ¾ his size and a couple of DVDs. So much for gaji tak masuk lagi la kan?

In fact I saw this interesting pieces of modern art selling at 2 floor. The seller was obviously the designer as well. He must be a graphic designer in profession that one day decided to invest a little bit of money on printing his modern-looking Islamic phrases on canvas and acrylic and opening a booth at the market. I must praise his work for having a fresh breath of contemporary art that’s interesting and rather unique.

What I must not praise is his CUSTOMER SERVICE!

The sat there behind the booth piled with artworks, playing with his cellphone with his wife and son. I was there looking at the items for several minutes before his wife nudge him and make him stand up. Then the wife continue to play with the phone why she couldn’t stand and smile and the potential customer I don’t know. In fact she looked rather scared to make eye contact. The man who stood up then started to talk and explain to a middle age man beside me. Why he couldn’t explain to the both of us I don’t know, maybe it’s my hand bag.

Hoi mangkuk! You see this handbag, it is cheap isn’t it? Cap Ayam isn’t it? IT IS BECAUSE I WEAR CAP AYAM HANDBAG THAT I CAN AFFORD TO BUY USELESS MERAPU-RAPU USELESS STUFF LIKE THE ONES YOU WERE SELLING! Tahulah aku ni nampak macam kanak-kanak riang makan Choki-Choki tapi orang macam aku lah yang akan beli kat flea markets, kalau orang bawak Birkin tu dia pergi beli art dekat ART GALLERY, itupun kalau dia ada duit lagi lepas beli BIRKIN tu, paham?

Goshh I just don’t understand these people. When I asked him what is the price for the big framed piece in black and red, he answered softly “Two fifty..” with an apologizing look on his face and some kinda hesitation as though he would rather not tell me. Why is such a manner? I believe he thought either I couldn’t afford it or would not spend that much on a piece of art.

Darling, young people these days (they are your potential customers) are spending hundred thousands on their houses, you think they cannot spend RM250 for wall décor? Yes they would, and they would buy from you if you are so cocky and stupid and judgmental.

But then again I am seriously blaming the situation on the innocence on our faces. At a store in the basement Azman picked up a can of Thailand’s special edition of Coke from the 90’s. It costs RM8.90 only and we still haven’t got such kind in our collection of almost 200 cans and bottles. When he was looking around for the cashier counter to pay for it, the lady sales promoter asked

“Do you want to buy this?”
“Yes..where is the counter?”
“This is for collection you know?”

“Yes..where is the counter?” nak cepat…. Anak tidor dalam stroller ni…
“This is NOT FOR DRINKING one you know!”
“Yes I know… I just want to know where to pay…..”

Well, the woman is a Filipino so she might be clueless but as for the Malay young entreprenuer, I hope he would brush up on his customer service skills lah kalau nak berjaya. haheheheheh…
