Back on the blog – Just Miki!

First of all many apologies to my readers. I received a lot of messages asking why I stopped updating this blog and my answer is well, I kinda lost my blogging mojo. But as I look at Miki last night before he went to sleep, I realized how much he has grown and how much achievements, milestones and even my own parenting learning curves that I missed jotting down in this blog. Time cannot be turned around, those memories, may they be good or bad, will be well… gone forever. Sayang eh? Azman and I was hoping to use this blog as a compilation of stories about us that someday when we are old and gray, we can read again and reminisce together.

Now with that motivation, I will start writing regularly again. *bersemangat*

About the little boy? Well like I said he is so big already. Now learning English and spelling slowly. He can read a few words only but speaks in many full English sentences. Bahasa Melayu tak payah cakap la, in fact he is forever talking and it makes me feel bad when I couldn’t entertain his endless questions.

One way of Miki learning English is by picking up words and sentences he hears on the TV and asking me the meaning.  I marveled at how curious kids these days can be, I remember when I was 5 or 6, I liked to watch Ewok and Smurf. I listened to the dialogues too but I don’t think I was really interested to know exactly what those English words mean. Miki on the other hand is just three but his inquisitive level stands a lot higher. He asked what’s the meaning of “courageous warrior”, what is a dragon scroll, why is the mermaid half fish, what’s the meaning of many big words for example  “robust”, “unbelievable” and phrases like “why am I so different”? Big words.. Miki… Big words…

But his addiction to TV is something that I have been monitoring. Positive side of it is his expanding vocabulary but I am afraid he would be less athletic if he keeps staying inside watching the idiot box. We have 3 tvs in the house and he conquers them all, the one in the living room is for Spongebob and other Astro shows, the one in our bedroom (NOT HIS BEDROOM! Bila ko nak tidor bilik sendiri ni?) is for his favorite movies like Kung Fu Panda, Tarzan and Rio. The other TV upstairs is strictly for watching Blue’s Clues. Jangan sesekali sesiapa berani memasang TV tersebut untuk menonton rancangan lain nescaya akan ada budak kecik mengamuk dan menyorokkan remote! *stress*

Yesterday at 6.30pm I took Miki to our neighborhood park that we all love very much. The trees at the playground area are blooming again and the yellow flowers are falling and scattered all over the grass. Miki was jumping and running and climbing happily while I watched until he stopped on his track and picked up a candy wrapper on the ground. He told me he wants a candy like this and I said sure after you’re done playing.

He threw the wrapper back on the ground and started to run again. I thought he was still playing around but as his pace got faster I started to scream his name but it seemed like he didnt hear me. He ran from the playground area to the road side, across the street and into the Mamak shop to get his candy. I screamed and ran after him but he was too fast for me. What if one of the drivers couldn’t see him? He is only one meter tall?! What if there was a mat rempit speeding his motorcycle? What if? What if?

That night Miki got quite a severe punishment for running away, not responding to his name being called  and crossing the street without adult’s supervision.

My heart almost stopped when I saw him running across the street dangerously like that. Please don’t do anything silly like this again kiddo! Thank God nothing happened. I am a little frustrated that I couldn’t run fast enough to catch you.. And this make me wonder how far can I go to protect you from harm…

Be good Miki and be safe…
