Makan-makan story – Nasi Tomato and Tomyam

Today we cerita about makan-makan lah! Can you all believe what we had on Azman’s birthday? Domino’s Pizza! *slap forehead* Kesian laki aku, dapat isteri mithali…

Daddy Azman never asks for anything (unlike Mummy Di LOL) for his birthday or any other celebration that’s why I took it for granted He only wants to spend quality time with his family. Hehe! Paling untung dapat laki camni! Pasang api lilin pun sendiri.. Love you Daddy!

The no 3 candle is from Miki’s birthday in January and we paired it with 5 candle stick so can you guess how old he is?

The birthday boy and the boy who thinks he must blow the candle on every cake at any time of the year…

Anyway recently I have started to cook again. Maybe because I was so insaf after the pizza party kot! hhaha. I made my debut Nasi Tomato, yay! Served it with Ayam Masak Merah and Jelatah.

Seriously this is my first Nasi Tomato ya’ll! If I knew if was super easy to make I would have tried ages ago.Saute sliced onions, garlic, ginger, cinnamon sticks, cumming seeds, star anise, cloves etc in ghee. Then add tomato puree and two cups of chicken stock. Add salt to taste. Add some water. Let it cook for a while before pouring it into the rice pot. I used the electric rice cooker of course! And the type of rice is definitely basmathi.  I added some raisins while the pot is boiling so that they would become nice and plump when the rice is done.

My nasi tomato turned out great at the end…I was so happy! But because I didnt have the confidence while I was making this dish, I stirred the rice a little too much resulting my long basmati jadi kontot-kontot sikit! LOL.. It’s OK next time we try again…

Nasi Tomato

I served it with Ayam Masak Merah and Jelatah which is actually salad lah! The chicken is too easy too make, tak payah cerita here lah! I made a careless mistake with my jelatah actually. I was supposed to add shredded carrots into the slices of cucumber, pineapple and onions that has been mixed with vinegar, salt and sugar. If I didnt forget, the salad would have been improved in taste and also appearance, wouldnt it?

Another dish that I cooked and managed to snap a photo is the above tomyam soup with chicken and vegetables. There are lots of juicy chicken cutlets in there although it’s not visible in the pic because if you can see the pattern I always serve a large amount of vege in every meal.

It has been so long since I last made tomyam, I forgot how easy it is. This time, due to extreme laziness, I didnt blend the onion, garlic, ginger and galangal root.  In fact, I didnt have ANY galangal root at all!  But I must say that fish sauce is a must have ingredient in this dish.. It still turned out amazing. Kalah warung kat Puchong yang kalau  aku order makanan dia serve kat ujung meja tu.

Both of my handsome boys love it very much, Miki ate a whole bowl with rice and Azman was frustrated that we finished it off without leaving a second helping for him. I am definitely making this again soon. Maybe you moms out there can try it too because it’s pretty healthy you know, no santan, just white meat and lotsa vegetables.

Happy cooking everyone! And happy eating!

  1. jelatah kalu nak comey salad tak yah pun takpe. nenas, timun, bawang merah/besar, cili merah – versi ori. carrot tu dah versi millenium. kalau nak authentic sket, tambah kacang tanah.
